Acres first came to my attention on the shows of Casey’s final ever tour back in May of this year. Suitably staged and comparative to their post-hardcore tour mates, the band have been growing with a busy tour schedule throughout the months. Announcing their debut album Lonely World the group have already released three impressive singles varying in power and atmospheric melody. However the final track to be released, Lullaby, before the projects release next week is something of a ballad. Encompassing elements of all that is cherished within the melodic and post hardcore scene right now.

Plucked guitar melody that matches the vocals with noticeably clever licks create an atmospheric tale from the south coast outfit that denotes a new perspective of the ‘sad song on the album’. Admittedly this track took a few listens to warm up to, but with each listen it carries that ability to surprise you with rhythm sections and percussion effects that you notice more upon each reflection. Originally slow but increasingly beautiful, the track begins to strain upon frontman Ben Lumber’s vocal abilities with a positive result. Distinctive and tonally intuitive, his emotive songwriting is portrayed cleverly with his voice. Awash with huge sustaining guitar, warmth of bass and low end conjoins with the minimalistic electronic soundscape which can be heard at the beginning of the track. Bitterly sweet, Lullaby hits home with an impressive display of range to Acres’ musical ability, showing off their contemporary influence in suited fashion.

“Lullaby is a song about losing someone you love prematurely. Before you get the chance to know them properly, life takes them away, leaving you with but a bitter sweet memory of the short time you had together. We all lose people we love and in those moments of great loss, the time we did have may never seem enough. Nonetheless, all we can do is be grateful for the time we were given with them and know their presence will live on, through memories, the way they have touched our hearts and the way they helped shape us as human beings.”

A visceral video accompanies the groups record, watch it below.

Catch Acres on tour with Parting Gift later this year.
